How to stop scrolling on autopilot

The useful moment is often before the feed opens. Make that moment a little less automatic.

Start with a specific moment

Choose one repeated situation: opening social media before getting out of bed, checking a video app between tasks, or reaching for the phone during a quiet evening. “Use my phone less” is harder to act on than a rule for one app in one situation.

Choose something small to do first

Pick a habit you would be willing to repeat: a short breathing session, standing up, a moment of grounding, or writing down why you reached for the phone. Start with a goal you can complete on an ordinary day.

Put the boundary where the opening happens

In Habit Protector, select the app, set the habit goal, and decide when the rule applies. The boundary then appears when the protected app opens. On iPhone, complete the habit in Habit Protector before returning to the shielded app.

Decide what access should look like

A short access window can make a check feel finite. A schedule can keep the rule limited to the hours that matter. Keep essential apps outside the rule and learn how Emergency Access works before you need it.

Review the habit, not an imagined perfect day

After a few days, look at which habit you completed and when you kept bypassing the rule. Shorten an unrealistic goal or change its timing. The app does not guarantee a particular reduction in screen time; the useful outcome is a rule you understand and choose to keep.
